Born on April 2, 1945, in Norristown, Pennsylvania, Bill was the beloved son of the late William E. Patterson, Sr. and Helen T. (Hallman) Patterson. A graduate of Schwenksville High School, Bill went on to serve his country honorably as a member of the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1967 before beginning a distinguished career in public safety.

Bill’s career with Montgomery County’s Department of Public Safety began in September 1972, when he took on the role of Dispatcher #31 in the county’s emergency communications center. Over the next 46 years, he became a fixture of the department, serving with professionalism, calm under pressure, and a deep commitment to his fellow residents and first responders. Even after transitioning from full‑time to part‑time status in 2000, Bill continued to lend his experience and steady hand until his final shift in December 2018.

During his tenure, Patterson held numerous leadership roles, including Chief of Operations in the emergency communications center — a position in which he helped shape best practices, mentor younger dispatchers, and ensure that critical emergency information was relayed accurately and effectively during life‑or‑death situations. His expertise and leadership helped define Montgomery County’s emergency communications for generations.

Beyond his work with the county, Bill was deeply involved in his local community. He was a longtime member and Past Chief of the Perkiomen Township Fire Company, where he also served as Emergency Management Coordinator and Fire Marshal. His half‑century of service to the fire company and broader community reflected a lifelong commitment to public safety that extended far beyond his formal job description.

Bill is remembered by colleagues, friends, and family for his integrity, compassion, and the mentorship he offered freely to others. He is survived by his siblings, including Robert E. Patterson, Betty J. Fisicaro, and Barbara J. McMahon, as well as nieces, nephews, and many friends whose lives he touched.

Visitation and memorial services were scheduled for Saturday, February 7, 2026, at the Perkiomen Township Fire Company, giving friends and community members an opportunity to honor his life and legacy.

William E. Patterson, Jr.’s life was one of steady service and heartfelt dedication — a testament to the profound impact that a committed public servant can have on the safety, resilience, and unity of a community. His loss is deeply felt, and his legacy will continue to inspire those who follow in his footsteps.

Rest in peace, Bill. Your service will not be forgotten.
