Born into one of Los Angeles’ most respected faith families, Lawrence Blake was the youngest son of Bishop Charles E. Blake Sr. and Lady Mae Blake, longtime leaders in the Church of God in Christ. From an early age, Lawrence was immersed in church life. He preached his first sermon at just 16 and became a licensed minister in 1988, setting the foundation for a lifetime of spiritual leadership.

Lawrence’s early years were shaped by a journey that included personal challenges and triumphs. At times straying from the church in his youth, he later recommitted himself to faith with the guidance of his family and the support of his wife, Jeanine. This personal transformation became a hallmark of his ministry, grounding his preaching in lived experience and deep compassion for others.

After years of pastoral service at West Angeles Church of God in Christ, he was appointed senior pastor of Palm Lane COGIC in Watts in 2024. At the time of his leadership appointment, Palm Lane was a small congregation. Under Pastor Blake’s guidance, the church more than doubled in size, becoming a vibrant center of worship and community outreach. He led with humility, accountability, and a genuine commitment to spiritual growth and redemption.

Pastor Blake is remembered as a devoted husband and loving father of three, whose life was anchored in faith and family. His ministry emphasized hope, restoration, and the transformative power of God’s grace. He spoke openly about overcoming struggles and encouraged others to find purpose in their journeys, reminding congregants that faith is not about perfection but surrender.

A Homegoing Celebration for Pastor Blake will be held on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at 10 a.m. at West Angeles Cathedral, 3600 Crenshaw Boulevard, Los Angeles. A public viewing will begin at 9 a.m.

Though his passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of family, congregation members, and the wider COGIC community, Pastor Lawrence Champion Blake’s legacy of service, faith, and love will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. His life stands as a testimony to resilience, compassion, and enduring devotion to God’s work.

Rest in peace, Pastor Lawrence Blake. Your ministry will be remembered, and your impact will endure.
